STEP 1
STEP 2
CHOICE: My practice positioning focused my preference on the Commercial and Autonomous practices. The artwork by Kitasavi and Balfua is also a combination of these two practice elements. I chose this specific artwork to research, because of the mix of techniques used in the work. I like it when graphic design goes beyond flat work and an experience. An experience that can be felt while looking at the work. There is so much going on and so much to look at. It does not get boring and you can really see how much work is put into every detail of the piece.
This piece could be hung anywhere in any room and it would make it come alive. I would also like to create such an experience in the future as a graphic designer and mix different techniques into pieces of art.
STEP 3
IDENTITY: Kitasavi / Nikita Savinov is a digital artists and art director from Moscow, Russia. Kitasavi looks like an expressive artist both in their work as in the way they are dressed.
They make digital art and they collaborate with other artists for projects such as the C24 archive magazine. They also recently made the artwork for the EP for the music artists Girl in Red.
OTHER WORK: All of their work is colourful and expressive with a lot going on in the works.
They have their own style, but apply it in different ways. Such as with the EP for Girl in Red.
ARTIST TIMELINE: Kitasavi first started publishing their art works on January 26th of 2017 on Instagram and have since been posting their art up until now. You can see their technique becoming more refined yet the style already being there since their first art work post.
SCHOOL: University, Graphic Design.
EXPERIENCE: They have been drawing since they are young and went to a childrens art school to later go to a university to study graphic design. Besides their more autnomous art work posts on instagram they also have / had a creative studio.
NETWORKS / PLATFORMS: Instagrams: @Kitasavi, @Collide24. Websites: en.99designs.nl, Kitasavi.com.
CONCLUSION: The research I did about different artworks and a more focused research about Kitasavi and his art works and experience in design gave me insight in how I would want to approach design in my future. I discovered that I am most drawn to designs that are mixed. Mixed styles / techniques / a mix between digital and analog. As a designer I would want to work in a lot of different fields apposed to only one form of design much like Kitasavi does.
